Baler, We Finally Meet

A surf haven indeed, which gained its right as one of the best surfing spots in the country
You should meet her too. Visit Sabang Beach and ride the waves to your liking. :)

HOW TO GO

Take the bus! Ride the Genesis Bus.

Station: EDSA, Cubao (corner New York Street)
Contact numbers: 7090803 or 4211413 (Cubao) and 853-3115 (Pasay)
Contact number for reservation - 7090545

Schedule and Transpo Cost:
1. The standard bus leaves every hour from 4AM-7AM. The travel time takes 7.5-8 hours. It costs P418 per person, one way. (data as of October 11, 2011. Data may be outdated.)
2. The deluxe bus or Joy Bus leaves earlier. They have 3 trips - 12:30AM, 1:30AM and 2:30AM. The travel time takes 5-6 hours and they have a built-in CR inside the bus. They also serve a bottle of water per passenger, as well as light snacks. It costs P700 per person, one way. Contact Genesis Bus for more details on this. (data as of March 2013)

Your last stop would be the bus station in Baler. Hop out and board a tricycle to Sabang Beach, or to where you're going to be staying (P15 per person to Sabang Beach near Bay's Inn). If you do not have a place yet, you may want to tell the driver to bring you to Bay's Inn and search the road for transient rooms and resorts.

WHERE TO STAY

I was expecting a lot from the accommodations at Bay's Inn, but what I got was disappointing. Let me list the reasons why:

1. There were two beds in our room. Both beds had a dead fly (langaw) on it.
2. The bathroom was not clean. The rear part of the toilet bowl still had some splashes of I don't know what. The floor of the shower area still had sand on it.
3. There were mosquitoes (lamok) in the bathroom.

The total damage? P900 (fan room).

The mosquitoes in the bathroom were forgivable.
The dead mosquitoes on the bed were not.

Well, I assume that this does not happen all the time, so go ahead and rent at Bay's Inn if you're saving up on cash. You may also rent a P500 fan room at Sea Breeze Lodge. It is located near Bay's Inn (walking distance). The rooms smell a bit musky and they do not look as pleasant like the others, but at least you get to save up on your money stash for Baler. :)

Click here to visit Bay's Inn's site for more details.

If you want quality, utmost comfort, and good value for your money, stay at Bahia de Baler II. With their cheapest room which costs P1200 per night, you get a fresh interior, a flat screen TV (with cable), airconditioning, clean restrooms, and clean beds. Click here to visit their website for more details. (UPDATE as of May 2013: Bahia de Baler II's rooms are not this cheap anymore. Read more about it by clicking here.)

WHAT TO EAT

The lobsters in Baler are really affordable. Go for this! Also try the buffalo wings at Bayler Restaurant. Yummy.

Bay's Inn Restaurant is also a popular place for dining.

Big Breakfast at Bay's Inn

Welcoming dawn at Bay's Inn
If you want to save, try eating at carinderias or eateries around the place.

WHERE TO RENT THOSE BOARDS

Charlie Does
Lessons - P400 per hour (inclusive of board and instructor)
1 hour board rental - P200
Half day board rental - P400
Whole day board rental - P800
Mahdox

Enjoy. :)
